Story telling, Reading Awareness along with promotion of SDGs in Juvenile Home

Number of people taking this action: 20-50
Motivational stories will be shared with Juvenile Home inmates (15 to 19 years of age) and they will be motivated to read books. Story about the importance of health and sanitation, how to recycle waste and not use plastic will also be shared. The inmates and staff of the Juvenile Home will be sensitised towards UN SDGs.

T.S. Central state Library, Sector 17 , Chandigarh in association with Readers & writers society of India (RWSI) organised Book 📚 launch, on the occasion of Daughters Day, Mr. Mahavir Jagdev’s Book in English ‘My Daughter’s Dad’ and Sagar Singh Bhooriya’s book in Hindi ‘Rang Birange Phool’ followed by Tri -lingual Poetry Recitation (Kavi sammalen) at the Library today. The audience of poets and authors were also sensitised about the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations and the role we can play for a better World to live ! #ACT4SDGSChief Guest : Dr Brian Richards, Poet and Author from Canada. Our Library has a footfall of about an average of 1000 people daily, the banner displayed will sensitise them about SDGs. Also the Facebook page of Library will reach out to 1000 members of the page and further.

T.S. Central State Library, Chandigarh, India is a public Library in the city which is one of the Union Territories of India whose functioning is computerized and housed in four floors. we also have three Branch Libraries. Apart from giving access to books (250000), magazines(120), newspapers(45), DVDs, Braille books and software for visually challenged, we provide free WiFi and Internet service to the community. We conduct various activities which are free of cost for the community like Health Literacy programmes, Blood and organ donation camps, Book launches, poetry recitation sessions by poets, Career counselling, Motivational talks for students, celebrate all important days and festivals, Financial Literacy programmes, Digital Literacy programme especially for senior citizens, Movie shows, Cultural programmes, etc. Special programmes and free workshops for children are organised for children including Theatre, Dance, English speaking, Clay modeling, Drawing, Painting, Art and Craft, Competitions, etc. We provide unique services including Home delivery of Books to Senior citizens and temporarily disabled people, Books on Demand by Community, Reissue of Books over phone, Computer facility, Photocopy and Print out facility,etc. We provide reading space with sitting capacity of 300+ people to study with air conditioned rooms and facility of cool filtered water. We use social media Facebook, Blog and Whatsapp to reach out to the community.
