Canon Young People Programme
Nigeria Lagos, Nigeria
Number of people taking this action: 1-20
A collaboration between the Slum Art Project (School of Art – Nigeria) and Canon Young People Programme, we are training up young people aged between 13-18. In providing these young people with the skills and tools to give them a visual voice to communicate the solutions as they see it to the challenges faced in their local communities. The young people will be provided with three weeks of training, to turn them into visual storytellers. They will be trained by local professionals, who have themselves graduated as fully certified Canon trainers. After final image selection, the images will be placed in the world largest photobook (as per the Guinness Book of Records). The size and publicity from this photobook, along with the quality of image will get these young people’s voices heard.

Canon ES are working in collaboration with Teach For All as the educational partner in designing and delivering the workshop. Teach For All describes its purpose as “Developing collective leadership to ensure all children have the opportunity to fulfil their potential” and their flagship programme works to discover exceptional students who may want to consider a career in teaching at the end of their higher education. They believe that by creating a virtuous circle of new teachers who are trained to support students from a background similar to their own is a great way to create “changemakers” who have a positive impact on society overall
