YWater works to activate youth to be a part of the local communities by taking action by better understand problems around water and sanitation and to develop localized solutions for the same. We work on advocacy and solution building. Our solution building efforts have resulted in the start of 22 new social businesses that aim to tackle different problems around the SDGs.
In our advocacy work, we deal with governments at the local, national and international level to raise awareness on youth issues linked to the SDGs. Our efforts at the local level include village and city level advocacy to end open defecation and create systems for effective waste management strategies which keep the youth at the center of change. At the national level, we work with youth committees in the national government to push for their active participation in the development agenda of the government. In 2018 we also represented youth voices at the ECOSOC Youth Forum to discuss solutions for water, sanitation and waste management at the UN headquarters in New York.
