Youngcaritas Berlin promotes social volunteering and supports young volunteers to get engaged in different projects. The office is based in a project shop „caridoo“ in Prenzlauer Berg Berlin. Youngcaritas consults young people who want to spend their free time for a good cause. Therefore we have a lot of projects from „Caritasverband für das Erzbistum Berlin e.V“, which are looking for young and motivated volunteers. Depending of the qualification, personal interest and time youngcaritas berlin mediates volunteers in Caritas refugee homes, elderly homes or other social services.
Moreover youngcaritas organises itself projects, like „Kulturbuddys“ and *vergissmeinnicht*.
„Kulturbuddys“ is a project for new people in berlin and people who live here. The group meets two times a month for cultural activities and excursions, like visiting a museum, cooking together on special occasions and religious events, playing football and doing other sporty activities together. The group decides what they want to do. It is always fun meeting other people from different nationalities and cultures. Joining them is always possible.
*vergissmeinnicht* is an upcycling sewing project. In youngcaritas project office „caridoo“ is a small sewing atelier with six machines. The clothes and fabrics are from Caritas Kleiderkammer or donated by people. Two times a week volunteers come here to design and sew new products out of old material. The products are sold on markets and the shop. All the funds go to „Caritasverband für das Erzbistum Berlin e.V.“ and support social services of the organisation. Every first Tuesday of the month there is a NEWCOMERS DAY for people who want to get involved.
Besides these projects youngcaritas Berlin organises different events, like cloth swapping parties, exhibitons, a summer academy and education workshops which broach the issue of sustainable development and open society.
