About Conservation International - Africa Field Division

Conservation International is an American nonprofit environmental organization headquartered in Arlington, Virginia. Its goal is to protect nature as a source of food, fresh water, livelihoods and a stable climate. CI's work focuses on science, policy, and partnership with businesses and communities.

For more than 30 years, Conservation International (CI) has been protecting nature for the benefit of all. Humanity is totally dependent on nature, and by saving nature, we’re saving ourselves. To that end, Conservation International is working to build a healthier, more prosperous and more productive planet.

We do this through science, policy and partnerships with countries, communities and companies. Over the years, we have helped support 1,200 protected areas and interventions across 77 countries, protecting more than 601 million hectares of land, marine and coastal areas.

Conservation International (CI) has worked in sub-Saharan Africa since 1990 and has protected 570,000 square kilometers (220,000 square miles). Across the region, CI is engaging African leaders, empowering local communities and helping to evaluate the true value of the region’s natural resources.
