At EWB, our mission is to bring people and ideas together to tackle to the most crucial causes of poverty and inequality.
We envision a world where everyone has access to the opportunities needed to thrive.
Extremely brief EWB history:
EWB Canada is a non-profit development organization that was founded in 2000. Our initial goal was to mobilize engineers to eliminate poverty through access to technology. However, as we grew, we realized that this didn’t address the root causes of poverty. Driven by tough questions and humility from our community and volunteers, we grew into an organization focused less on building and more on serving. We centered the voices of the people we’re trying to serve in all of our conversations. We learned to embrace the complexities and failures inherent to solving some of the world’s most challenging problems. Through constant evolution, we have grown into an organisation that takes a diverse, innovative, and humble approach to development.
At the University of Alberta Chapter, we aim to empower our members and strive towards asking tough questions of ourselves and the world around us. We meet regularly to discuss systems thinking and how we can use our voices to create global change.
