Business Contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals - A Student Assessment

Germany Berlin, Germany
Number of people taking this action: 250 or more
The Business Contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals program brings professors and students together in collaboration with WikiRate and the Principles for Responsible Management Education to research how companies impact, diclose and contribute to the SDGs. Students use public documents to gather data on corporate sustainability performance according to a topic or SDG, aggregate the data on the WikiRate platform, and then use the data to analyze company performance and disclosure according to their research questions. Some students use the data-gathering process to critique the different approaches of reporting and disclosure, and to consider what kinds of information is missing or difficult to compare. Others use the data to analyze disclosure rates or performance of a company over time. All the students learn more about sustainability reporting and how the data within them can be used by all company stakeholders to understand sustainability transparency and performance issues. Students also learn the challenges to getting important information from company reports, given that data is often obscured or reported in ways that make it difficult to compare with other companies.  Participant universities and institutions include: Duke University, Nicholas School of Environment - United States Glasgow Caledonian University - Scotland Goa Institute of Management - India Great Lakes Institute of Management - India HHL Leipzig - Germany Lebanese American University - Lebanon Neoma Business School - France Nottingham Trent University - United Kindom Oxford Brookes University - United Kingdom Royal Holloway School of Management - United Kingdom Universidad EAFIT - Colombia Universidad ICESI - Colombia University of Applied Sciences - FH Krems - Austria University of Pretoria - Gordon Institute of Business Science - South Africa University of Western Australia Business School - Australia University of Wollongong Faculty of Business - Australia Wilfrid Laurier University - Canada Would you like to learn more or get involved?
