This year, Canon launched its first YPP in Saudi Arabia, in partnership with the Saudi Royal Commission, in the grounds of Al Ula, UNESCO world heritage site. Al Ula is a rural area with a population of only around four thousand people. Over the twelve weeks of programme activities young people accessed informal education that aimed to inspire and allow participants to share opinions around the Sustainable Development Goals – particularly that of Sustainable Cities and Communities.
The programme was led by Jeanine El Moughrabi; DRBG Regional Sustainability Engagement Lead, and our Canon Ambassador; Tasneem Al Sultan. During the three months of programme, all 17 students participated in 12 in-person sessions and 1 month of virtual classes. In these, they learnt professional camera skills to capture the monuments and unexplored history and express their interests in protecting living culture and preserving natural heritage.
